Once I worked out this SSI issue, I was able to create a new Dreamweaver template based on the new WordPress theme, I was able to convert the pages in the site through Dreamweaver’s automation simply by replacing the old template currently used for all the HTML files in the site with a new template based on the WordPress theme.
The process went something like this:
- Navigate to a page in your site served by WordPress
- Save the page to your local hard drive.
- Open the page in Dreamweaver
- Back up your current Dreamweaver template.
- Create a new, blank template in Dreamweaver
- Add editable regions to the blank template that match the editable regions in your existing Dreamweaver template.
- Copy the Dreamweaver template tags from the template to the blank WordPress page.
- Save the modified WordPress page as a new tempate name. DO NOT overwrite your old template (yet).
- Create a new test page in Dreamwever from that new template
- Edit the template, save it and the new test page will be updated by Dreamweaver automatically.
- Upload the changed test page to your website and view it.
- Repeat steps 10 and 11 until your new Dreamweaver template matches the WordPress page exactly and your new template contains all the components of your original static pages.
- Open the new Dreamweaver template, save it as the original template used in your site.
- Dreamweaver will ask if you wish to update the pages that use the template, click Yes. Dreamweaver will proceed to modify all your local files to use the new template you created and saved as the same template file name as your old template.
- When Dreamweaver finishes updating your local files, upload them to your website.
At this point, all your files will have been updated and your website will have a consistent look and feel based on the Dreamweaver template and your WordPress theme.
Good luck!
